VITAMIN-B BENEFITS

Monday, October 1st, 2012

RADIO HEALTH PEARL #492    …brought to you by the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center.

Most of you have heard of the B-vitamin group: your typical B-12, B-6, Folic Acid, Inositol, Niacin and Biotin. But do you actually understand why they are so important to us?

B-Vitamins are known to give us energy, and to help us when we are stressed or have anxiety. However, they’re also involved in metabolism and overall digestion, as well as in fighting Alzheimer’s.

Most B-vitamins are water soluble, which allows our bodies to use them for any amount of time without worrying too much of building-up toxicity.

Looking at the many benefits that each single B-vitamin provides, ranging from forming red blood cells to raising good cholesterol, and from helping the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach to regulating normal brain function, overall studies suggest that it is best to take a complete B-Complex or a multivitamin with a good B-complex profile and then ADD that extra single B-vitamin to address a specific issue.

And when you need more help with that specific issue, we hope you check us first …at the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center, on North 19th Avenue.

PRECAUTIONS FOR A NEW SCHOOL YEAR

Monday, August 13th, 2012

RADIO HEALTH PEARL #485    …brought to you by the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center.

It is still the middle of summer, and already we are anticipating busier traffic, as schools are getting ready to open their doors in a few weeks. Fall sports participants are actually starting their trainings this week!

As many thousands of students –and teachers- ranging from preschool through college, prepare to spend time in stuffy classrooms, keep in mind there are simple steps to make this school year more enjoyable.

  • Protect yourself from injuries during sports, as well as drastically improve your speed, power and overall performance by doubling-up on your protein, fats and minerals intake.
  • If you are more prone to sniffles, the common cold or the flu, start increasing your vitamin D intake to about 5,000 units daily, and take two or three high-quality multivitamins every day.
  • And for brain alertness or stress, take ginkgo biloba, a good B-complex, extra B-12, and a tablespoon of cod-liver oil.

We are here to help you through another healthy school year …at the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center, on North 19th Avenue.

STRESS AND NUTRITIONAL DEFICIENCIES

Monday, April 30th, 2012

RADIO HEALTH PEARL #471      brought to you by the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center.

Dealing with daily S-T-R-E-S-S works differently for different people, simply because we’re not all wired the same way.

Medical doctors often conclude there is a lack of adequate neurotransmitters such as Dopamine, Serotonin or Epinephrine; or there is too much demand on our body’s four major stress hormones: Adrenaline, Cortisol, DHEA, and Norepinephrine.

This is very well possible in many of the diagnosed cases. But, in my opinion, many MORE people have become deficient in simple nutrients, such as B-Vitamins and Vitamin C.

Now keep in mind that I’m talking about higher numbers here, such as a Vitamin B-100 Complex two or three times daily, and Vitamin C up to 10,000 mg per day.

STRESS comes in different forms and sizes, but it very often affects the way we eat and what we eat. When we’re stressed we may eat all the time or may stop eating all together. And when we do eat, it is often high-carbohydrate food, low in vitamins B and C.

Stop-in some time and read from our library of helpful books and magazines at …the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center, on North 19th Avenue.
