HEALTHY FATS FOR SCHOOL

RADIO HEALTH PEARL #487    …brought to you by the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center.

The research on Essential Fatty Acids Omega 3 and Omega-6 is ever growing. Especially Omega-3 shows many healing benefits.

The best sources of Omega-3 are fish, fish oils, and some algae.

Omega-3 breaks down into EPA and DHA. EPA is for fighting inflammation; DHA is for brain function and nerve health. You will find both in any fish oil that you buy in a reputable health foods store.

Just make sure that for improving brain function you’ll need about 1,500mg of DHA daily.

And likewise, an athlete fighting inflammation should take fish oil that provides at least 1,500mg of EPA daily.

And please count how many capsules or teaspoons it will take to get to that beneficial amount…

As students go back to school it would be good for both them and their teachers to add adequate Omega-3’s to their daily diet!

Research shows that long-term use will be very beneficial. That’s why we are here long-term as well …at the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center, on North 19th Avenue.

DARN DRY SKIN

RADIO HEALTH PEARL #468 …brought to you by the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center.

Living in Montana brings the challenge of dry skin. This is not only frustrating, but it can be downright painful!

For many people it affects the hands, thereby causing peeling skin, paper-cuts, bleeding and skin getting stuck in blouses and other clothing. Other parts can get affected as well, causing rashes, itching and a variety of allergic-type symptoms.

In general, I suggest people may be too low in their essential fat uptake from fish, flax, borage, evening primrose, butter and coconut oil. And trying TABLESPOONS FULL instead of capsules may bring improvement within about a week.

Another option for dry skin could be an increase in the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, because these contain antioxidants that protect the skin.

Also, you may be deficient in the mineral ZINC, especially in the wintertime. Adequate amounts of ZINC are necessary for the proper functioning of the oil-producing glands of the skin.

DEPRESSION OPTIONS

RADIO HEALTH PEARL #457 …brought to you by the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center.

If treating depression were easy, a lot less people would be making a living off of it…

DEPRESSION is an umbrella term for different types of debilitating emotional upsets. They all have overlapping symptoms, but specific severities will set each one apart.

Taking dietary supplements will not be a replacement for medication you are taking yet, but many can become additions to, or eventual substitutes for prescription drugs. Work with a physician who is willing to monitor you during this process.

o Adequate fish oil daily, with at least 1,500 mg of EPA fat is almost essential;

o Year round Vitamin D3 is often missing in those with depression;

o Trying some GABA and Tryptophan may calm the mind, lift the spirit, as well as improve sleep;

o And Bach Flowers have helped many people during the last century.

The list goes on. None of these will help you overnight, but with proper coaching, positive change is near.
