RADIO HEALTH PEARL # 381 … brought to you by the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center.
You may have heard of AMINO ACIDS.
In fact, amino acids are building blocks of proteins in all living organisms. There are over a hundred amino acids, 20 of those are actually used for proteins, while others are involved in metabolism or they function as chemical messengers.
Amino acids are recognized by the letter “L-“ in front of the word; for example L-Glutamine, L-Lysine, L-Arginine and L-Tyrosine.
Their individual names indicate that they have their own qualities and benefits, but as a group they may become a protein.
For example, L-Glutamine has wonderful benefits for intestinal health and for recuperating muscles.
L-Lysine helps with cold sores and the herpes virus.
L-Ornithine is a precursor to Human Growth Hormone, and it helps to remove ammonia from the body and brain.
And L-Tryptophan improves mood through serotonin production, and helps us fall asleep.
There is so much more to know about amino acids. Come-on in to learn, and try some yourself …at the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center on North 19th Avenue.
