UNDERSTANDING ESTROGENS

RADIO HEALTH PEARL #364 …brought to you by the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center.

This week I focus on the hormone ESTROGEN.

Estrogen is a general name that includes three different forms: ESTRODIAL, ESTRONE and ESTRIOL.

ESTRODIAL is more prevalent in young women, and brings youthfulness, as well as libido and fertility. There needs to be a healthy balance with the hormone PROGESTRONE in order to avoid annoying symptoms of PMS.

In Pre-menopause, Estrodial shares a 50-50 ratio with another estrogen, called ESTRONE. As Estrodial diminishes women start experiencing hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms. Estrone increases during menopause, and women could still benefit from supplemental Progesterone.

ESTRIOL, the smallest of the three estrogens, is abundantly present during pregnancy, giving an overall feeling of happiness and wellbeing. Estriol is also the only estrogen that doesn’t cause cancer if there is not enough progesterone.

Estrogens are misunderstood and mistreated. However, we treat them gently …at the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center on North 19th Avenue.
